About

Hola! I'm Jewel, a twenty-something year old who has been wandering the fields of West Texas since day one. I'm a mom to two little girls and a bbq wife to Andrew of Embers Barbecue. I'm inspired by different cultures, art, good food and the passionate people behind all of those things. I'd say I'm a hard worker, maybe a bit of a drifter, and I love searching out the next best place to eat, the next band to listen to, or an interesting place to shop. I've always got my ears open for a great story to write about and I don't mind traveling a little to find it.

If you've read our Texas Monthly write up, you'll know that our business slowed down shortly after we opened. When we noticed things were coming to a halt, Andrew and I joked about getting tattoos that said "BBQ or Die". Honestly, that's what it was for us. After working two years to get our place up and running we knew we had to keep trucking along. We had to cook, not only for us but for our girls. We had to provide. We moved back to Lubbock (Andrew's hometown), and currently still serve in Levelland two days a week but also function off of pop-ups in Lubbock.

BBQ or Die isn't just about bbq. Hard work is a close friend of ours and we've seen our families struggle and always overcome the problems. BBQ or Die is about real people. The ones who make our world turn, the ones who do back breaking work to feed their kids or the small business owner who had to fight tooth and nail to keep her doors open. I hope you visit often and follow me on my journey to bring people together, from West Texas and beyond.
